Quarto Gifi Book Update (2026-07-27)

Many of my papers/projects are unfinished, for the simple reason that I got fed up with them and decided to start something new. I am sure that is some sort of personality disorder, but it is also partly explained by the fact that I never needed to formally publish to have a solid academic career, after an initial push in the sixties and seventies.

There are three book projects I have been working on for over 20 years – and which I will clearly never finish working on. After all, I am 80 years old now. There are unfinished books on MVA with optimal scaling, on least squares MDS, and on block relaxation and majorization.

I recently gave the MVAOS book yet another gentle push. In the github repository

there is a new version. It differs because it uses Quarto instead of Bookdown. But the main difference with the previous version is that it does not include the aspect approach to MVAOS and just discusses the various versions of Gifi loss (or meet-loss). This brings it more inline with the gifi package in R, which is another long-term unfinished project.
